Performance history

From formal studies to Vancouver Island stages

Working across jazz standards, roots accompaniment, pit orchestras, and contemporary studio tracks requires adaptability and a deep respect for the tune. My background combines formal harmonic education with relentless practical experience backing singer-songwriters and horn sections.

Instrument setup is treated as an extension of physical technique—keeping action consistent, intonation clean, and the acoustic response natural whether working behind an upright fingerboard or an electric neck.

Teaching ethos

Patience, tone, and practical ear development

Teaching in Victoria is approached with the same discipline brought to a session date: clear expectations, careful listening, and an emphasis on physical ease. Lessons focus on time feel, hearing chord changes, and understanding what makes an ensemble lock together.

Combo coaching centers on active listening, groove hierarchy, and giving each instrument space to speak. Students learn to support the soloist, hold a dependable pulse, and trust the quiet authority of understated execution.
